Windlasses

Windlasses

The machines used in the mooring and cargo loading works on ships are called windlasses. The windlass on the ships has the functions of pulling, lifting and mowing the load. They are divided into three according to their working principles and two according to their intended use. The anchor winches are placed on the overhead parts of the ships or on the head frame. The purpose of these anchor windlasses is to secure the shrub and the screw of the anchor. Iron windlasses have the power to pull a heavy load from fifty meters deep in ten minutes. These windlasses, which have many parts in themselves, make it easier for seafarers. Rope windlasses are used to secure the ropes of ships. Windlasses, which were previously operated by piston steam engines, are now easier to operate. Windlasses with electric and hydraulic motors are easier to use than before.
