Locals still hang warning signs near water bodies that are considered to be Kappa's haunts.

The Kappa Legend

Kappa was considered a type of Suijin (water god) living in the freshwater regions of Japan. According to legend, Kappa loves to misbehave and even harm people. A Kappa's jokes can manifest in the form of harmless jokes such as making bloated sounds or calling a woman's kimono. However, sometimes Kappa is more violent and they have been known to try to drown livestock, kidnap children, and eat them. These features are the reason why it is among the sea monsters.

Although the Kappa is often seen as a force to be feared, some situations suggest he is generous. But this happens when a Kappa owes a person. Some of Dost Kappa's most common records are about placing broken or broken bones and the knowledge of medical ointment being taught by Kappa. These records, characterized by goodness, are early Japanese legends.

Physical View

Kappa's descriptions vary from region to region. However, most of the details are similar. Kappa is said to be the size of a little boy. The word Kappa roughly means "water boy". Its hands and feet are webbed and are known to have incredible swimming abilities. It also has a scaly skin similar to that of a reptile. Skin color changes. It is often said to come in shades of yellow, green, and blue. It is said to be a humanoid figure with tortoiseshell on its back.

Finally, on the heads of all Kappas, there is a small bowl-like pit that holds a small pool of water called "Sara". This water is thought to be the source of Kappa's magical powers. A Kappa must keep their palaces full when they land or lose all their strength and magical powers. Without this water, a Kappa would likely die.
