It is the second-largest district among the districts of Hatay. The population of the district is approximately 250 thousand people. The district was first founded in BC. It was founded with the name of Alexandreia as a result of the war won by Alexander the Great in 333. The war won by Alexander took place near Isos. Iskenderun ship ports are important for the district. Before the city of Alexandria was founded, there was a city called Myriandos. The city belonged to the Phoenicians. Due to the location of the district, the region has been occupied many times throughout history. The region came under the sovereignty of the Ottoman State as a result of the Mercidabık War in 1517. The region was captured by France and the United Kingdom during World War I. It remained as a Syrian banner under French occupation until 1938. The County area until 1974 when it was included in Turkey was in the form of a small town. After the iron and steel factory, which started production in 1974, was opened, the region developed very economically. Industries of vegetable oil, flour, canned food, ginning, weaving, paste, paddy, and auto have been developed. The oil comes from Batman through the pipeline. The oil coming here is delivered to Mersin over the sea. Natural beaches and plateaus attract attention in the region. Urbanization that is suitable for contemporary urbanism has recently been observed in the region. District; It is highly developed in terms of industry, tourism and maritime trade. The contribution of these sectors to the region is very high. There is the Mediterranean in the western part of the city. Nur Mountains are located in the eastern region.

Iskenderun Ship Ports 

The port is considered important for the region. He pioneered the rapid development of maritime trade. Also, the port is functional for touristic purposes. Port has the distinction of being Turkey's fourth-largest port. The port contributes greatly to maritime trade. The port is located in Iskenderun Bay. It is located exactly 36 degrees north and 36 degrees east latitude. A small harbor was built in the region after the First World War. As a result of the privatization of the port is 2011, the operation of the port was transferred to the Limak company. İskenderun ship harbors area is 1 square kilometer long. It has 8 docks. The pier length was measured as 732 meters. The port has a railway connection. This causes sea transportation to be connected everywhere. Container dock length was also calculated as 920 meters.
