One of the most important operations performed on ships is the cleaning process to be carried out under deck and bilges. The process steps to be followed when performing these transactions are generally as follows;

• You must first know that bilges must always be dry and clean. Or dirt caused by currents when combined with excess moisture causes bad odor and moisture. To prevent this situation, after cleaning the area with the necessary chemicals, it should also be cleaned with surface cleaners.

• In winter, some antifreeze is added to the bilge water to prevent freezing.

• Then check the oil level in the bilge. At this stage, oily water should never be discharged into the sea.

• Check whether the pump in the bilge is operated manually or automatically. Also, the bilge filters in the machine compartment are checked once a week.

• While traveling at sea, the participation valves must be checked and lubricated if necessary. However, the bilge evacuation system must be inspected once a month.

• The fuel tank must be cleaned with the recommended cleaning materials and kept full to avoid condensation in the tank. Besides, the water separator and the fuel filter should be replaced regularly.
